A CARVED IVORY ‘LANDSCAPE’ BRUSH POT, BITONG
KANGXI PERIOD, INSCRIBED WITH A CYCLICAL DATE JIAYIN,
CORRESPONDING TO 1674
The brush pot is delicately carved with a continuous landscape scene
including various trees, pagodas, and towering mountains fading into the
distance, with two small scholarly fgures crossing a river. There are three
characters inscribed to one side.

The inscription reading die cui tu may be translated as ‘overlapping shades
of green’.
Compare the present lot to a rare Ming dynasty ivory brush pot in the Palace
Museum, Beijing, decorated with an incised design of the Three Friends of
Winter, illustrated in Zhongguo meishu quanji, Gongyi meishu bian 11 zhu, mu,
ya, jiao, qi, Beijing, 1987, p. 78, no, 90.

A PALE CELADON AND RUSSET JADE POURING
VESSEL, YI
The yi is supported on four lion-head feet and is carved to the body
with a stylised band of archaisitic kui dragons. The handle is carved
with a mythical beast terminal with a further horned beast-head
with a loose ring below the spout. The stone is of a pale celadon tone
with a few scattered pale russet inclusions.

AN ARCHAISTIC MOTTLED PALE GREY JADE BEAKER
MING DYNASTY (1368-1644)
The faring beaker is carved with a key-fret border on the upper body and
around the raised foot. The stone is of a pale grey tone with white, grey and
brown fecks and inclusions.
