           CHINE, DYNASTIE QING, SECONDE MOITIE DU XIXEME SIECLE
           De forme rectangulaire, il est orné de deux dragons confrontés
           pourchassant la perle sacrée. La partie supérieure centrale porte une
           marque de salle Jingren gong beiyong, ‘pour l’usage dans le Palais de
           la Grande Bienveillance’.

           PROVENANCE
           Collection of Dr. Berislav Borcic (1891-1977), the Yogoslav Public
           Health specialist who worked in China as League of Nations Health
           consultant in the late 1920s to 1930s.
           The fve-character inscription reads Jingren gong beiyong and can be
           translated as ‘For the use of the Hall of Great Benevolence’. Jingren
           Gong was one of the Six Eastern Palaces of the Forbidden City and
           served as the living quarters of the imperial wives and concubines.
           See another similar ‘dragon’ imperial carpet bearing a Qianqing Gong
           mark from the collection of Robert Hatfeld Ellsworth, 17-18 March
           2016, lot 1388.
