TWO BAMBOO SNUFF BOTTLES
1800-1900
The first of flattened oviform shape with raised panels on each main
face, one carved in intaglio with a six-character seal script inscription
reading song zhu zai duo yi mei lan (the pine and bamboo grow in
abundance, likewise the plum is admirable), the other side delicately
incised with a small building on a tree-lined shore; together with a
carved and lacquered bamboo bottle of wide flattened oval shape
carved in relief with crabs to one side and a buffalo under willow to the
other.
2 1/4in (5.7cm) high and 2 1/16in (5.3 cm) high, stoppers (2).

A CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER METAL-BODIED SNUFF

Of large spade shape, carved in a continuous landscape scene,
one main face with two seated scholars near a pagoda and a small
building, all below a cloud collar and the other face with two standing
scholars in a similar setting, the narrow sides with slender upright
rockwork, two scrolling floral bands at the neck.
