The cover is carved with a central circular Hosokawa Morisada, Ittokuroku, Tokyo,
hatched roundel from which narrow 1982, pp. 239-240, pl. 110
chrysanthemum petals radiate. The box is
carved with similar petals. The translucent
stones is of pale creamy tones, with very
small caramel inclusions.

A SOAPSTONE CARVING OF CHI DRAGONS
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911)
The stone is well carved in high relief with four intertwining chi dragons
with bi-furcated horns and tails playing amidst wispy clouds. Their young is
carved out of the black part of the stone grasping a stem in its mouth.

䳘ⶅ嬟屆炻˪ᶨ⼿抬˫炻㜙Ṕ炻1982炻
QING DYNASTY (1644-1911) ⚾104
The jade is carved as a basket, decorated
with cross-hatched designs containing
wan emblems. The rim is set with a pair
of cloud-shaped rings connected with
a ‘U’-shaped loose handle. The semi-
translucent stone is of an even white tone.
