TWO IMPERIAL EDICTS

QIANLONG PERIOD, DATED 1780 AND 1790 RESPECTIVELY,
AND OF THE PERIOD

Each edict is written on woven silk brocade mounted as a

handscroll, the text arranged in standard form reading from left

to right in Manchu and repeated from right to left in Chinese          㖍㛔䥩Ṣ㓞啷炻℞⺢䩳㕤1950⸜ẋ军1960⸜ẋ

characters, the Chinese text opening with a four-character title in

a vertical line, Fengtian Gaomin, ‘By the Command of Heaven’,

flanked by a pair of dragons, the first with a long text and ending

with the date 45th year of Qianlong, corresponding to 1780,

stamped with a seal impression within a square, the other dated to

55th year of Qianlong, corresponding to 1790.
