A DEHUA STANDING FIGURE OF BUDDHA
LATE MING-EARLY QING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
The figure is well modelled standing on a lotus petal throne with
his left arm held at the waist holding a jewel and the other lowered
at his side, his face with a serene expression, tightly curled hair and
long pendulous ear-lobes, wearing long voluminous robes tied at
the waist. There is an impressed Huijiang shanren mark within a
square to the back.

Compare to a very similar Dehua standing Buddha also bearing the
Huijiang shanren mark, illustrated in the S. Marchant & Son, Blanc
De Chine, London, 2006, Catalogue, no. 4. Another Dehua standing
Buddha but without the inscription is illustrated in ibid, Catalogue, no.
8. The characters Hui Jiang Shanren may be translated as ‘the Hermit
Hui Jiang’.
