AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE AND LARGE ENAMELLED
YELLOW-GROUND ‘LANDSCAPE’ DISH
Late Kangxi/early Yongzheng
The deep rounded sides rising from a tapered foot to an everted rim, the interior superbly
painted on a vivid yolk-yellow ground with a landscape on the centre, in which a scholar with
his attendant and a horse on a ferry boat crossing the river, the river flanked by mountainous
sides detailed with villages and temples, surrounded by musical instruments and scholarly
objects on a coin-diaper ground amidst cartouches painted with landscapes, the exterior sides
painted with four fan-shaped cartouches painted with landscape and bamboo, and divided by
four yellow pomegranate-shaped cartouches decorated with flower and rocks on a keyfret-
diaper ground.
