AN ARCHAISTIC RUSSET AND GREY JADE BELL
17th century
Carved after a Western Zhou dynasty bronze prototype, each side with
three rows of raised bosses divided by two horizontal geometric-pattern
bands and a pair of stylised cicadas in the centre, the lower section
carved in low relief with a pair of archaistic kui-dragons, the stone of
brownish-green and opaque russet tone.
18cm (7 1/8in) high. (2).

Commissioning jade carvings in the form of archaistic bronzes was a 青灰玉質，短甬及旋上雕卷谷紋，鐘身上中下三匝回紋，篆部雕幾何紋
fashion popular among scholars during the time between the late Ming 飾，淺浮雕鐘枚，左右三組，每組三顆，鉦陰刻雲頭紋，鼓部雕變體饕餮
and early Qing dynasties. Compare with an archaic bronze bell, early 紋，染深棕皮色，饒有古意。
