NOTE:
The manner and practice of horse painting
was formalized during the Tang dynasty,
when horses became important symbols of
imperial power. Zhao Yong, following his
father Zhao Mengfu’s (1254-1322)
foodsteps, was renowned for his portrayal of
horse and groom. Horse and Groom features
well articulated horses tended by sensitively
rendered grooms in naturalistic
environments.

註:在以馬為帝王權力象徵的唐代,對馬的 817
繪畫發展出固定的範式。畫作中馬通常由馬
夫牽引,或以簡單的山水為佈景,或一人一 VARIOUS OWNERS
馬再無他飾。趙雍及其父趙孟頫(1254-
1322)承襲唐法,成為元代具代表性的畫馬 817
名家。《飲馬圖》細節豐富、線條流暢,一 DONG QICHANG (1555-1636) 題識:十月五日弟,名正具,左沖。
