NOTE:
The manner and practice of horse painting
was formalized during the Tang dynasty,
when horses became important symbols of
imperial power. Zhao Yong, following his
father Zhao Mengfu’s (1254-1322)
foodsteps, was renowned for his portrayal of
horse and groom. Horse and Groom features
well articulated horses tended by sensitively
rendered grooms in naturalistic
environments.

題識： 延祐三年（1316）歲次丙辰九月廿日，
吳興趙雍畫。

註：在以馬為帝王權力象徵的唐代，對馬的 817
繪畫發展出固定的範式。畫作中馬通常由馬
夫牽引，或以簡單的山水為佈景，或一人一 VARIOUS OWNERS
馬再無他飾。趙雍及其父趙孟頫（1254-
1322）承襲唐法，成為元代具代表性的畫馬 817
名家。《飲馬圖》細節豐富、線條流暢，一 DONG QICHANG (1555-1636) 題識：十月五日弟，名正具，左沖。
