A VERY LARGE CLOISONNÉ ENAMEL
‘LOTUS’ VASE, HU
17th century
Of elegant pear shape, rising from a spreading
foot to a waisted neck and flared rim, the
shoulders set with a pair of lion-mask handles
suspending loose rings, the exterior brightly
enamelled on a turquoise ground with five
registers of meandering scrolling lotus blooms,
each separated by thin bands of floral scrolls on
a darker blue ground.
