Supported on eight bracket feet, rising to the
everted foliate rim with eight lobes and ribs
running down the cavetto, covered overall
with a reddish-brown lacquer, fitted box.

the overall form of this vessel has strong
parallels to Wanli porcelain basins, see for

‘BASKET WEAVE’ CIRCULAR BOX AND
COVER
17th century
The cover decorated with two red flowering
peonies issuing from leafy stems, the box
and cover sides with black lacquer borders
enclosing basket weave bands, metal-
mounted clasp.
