A SANCAI MOULDED INK STONE
LIAO DYNASTY (907-1125)
The ink stone is moulded with a stylised dragon surrounding a shallow water receptacle
moulded with double fish amidst waves. The well and sides are moulded with flowers in
shaped panels. It is covered overall with splashes of cream, green and amber glazes, with
three very small spur marks on the foot rim.
