A ROCK CRYSTAL ‘SILVER DOLLAR’ SNUFF BOTTLE
1736-1820
Of flattened circular shape, each side carved with an image of one side of a
Spanish Charles III silver ‘eight reales’ coin, with a truncated inscription, one side
portraying the profile of the king, the other with the Spanish coat of arms, the short
sides of the bottle carved with horizontal lobes, all resting on a concave circular
foot.

A ROCK CRYSTAL ‘SILVER DOLLAR’ SNUFF BOTTLE

Of circular outline, tapering towards the base, each main side carved in low relief
with the image of a Spanish eight-reales coin, one side with the profile of Charles
III, inscribed with the year 1779, all in reverse, the other with the Spanish coat of
arms.

It is interesting to note that the obverse image of the coin with the profile of Charles
III has been executed in reverse, indicating that the carving was done using an
impression of the coin and not from an actual coin.
