A BRONZE ‘LION AND GROOM’
PAPERWEIGHT
LATE MING DYNASTY
modelled in the form of a recumbent lion with alert eyes framed by thick
coiling eyebrows, finely detailed with a ridged spine down its arched
body covered by a ruyi cloud patterned cloth upon which a Central Asian
figure mounts, the rider dressed in upturned boots and a soft conical hat
characteristic of the attire of foreign grooms, possibly from Sogdiana
