AN AMBER ‘LION’ GROUP
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

carved in the form of a lion seated on its hind legs with its front paws
grasping a brocade ball attached to flowing ribbons, its head turned to the
left with large round eyes framed by bushy brows, the cub clambering on top
of its arched back, both detailed with open mouths and finely incised tufts of
fur, the amber of a rich variegated reddish-orange colour
