A LARGE CARNELIAN-AGATE ‘LION’ VASE
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
cleverly carved using the different tones of the stone, the recumbent lion with its head
turned sharply to the left with a well-hollowed peach issuing from a ruyi branch atop
its back forming the vase, followed closely by its cub, both detailed with prominent
eyebrows above bulging eyes and finely incised coiled fur, the stone of a pinkish red
tone with areas of white and grey inclusions
