MAINTENON’ FIGURE

The standing figure of Louis XIV’s mistress
dressed in long tunics with colourful patterns,
with a shawl atop the elaborately curled wig,
with a benign expression across the smiling
face, the hands modelled slightly raised.

SEAL MARK AND POSSIBLY OF THE

Daoguang seal mark and possibly of the
period
The exterior enamelled with two writhing
five-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls
and two swooping phoenix, all between floral
sprays, below a border of the Eight Buddhist
Emblems and ruyi-head motifs, raised on a
short foot rim.
