A LAVENDER JADEITE RECTANGULAR SNUFF BOTTLE
1780-1860
Each side of the faceted bottle is carved with a raised panel. The stone is of translucent
icy lavender color with one small dot of apple-green color on the top of the mouth rim.

Lavender, or lilac-colored jadeite probably became available to the Chinese artisans
at much the same time as the better known and more plentiful emerald-green jadeite.
This leaves open the possibility that jadeite pieces of this more exotic coloring could
date from the late eighteenth century and into the early nineteenth century.
