A MIRROR PAINTING AND ‘ZITAN’
TABLE SCREEN
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
comprising a double sided rectangular mirror,
painted to one side with a depiction of Jiang Ziya,
the famed military strategist, dressed in humble
attire, seated on a riverbank, shing rod in hand,
gazing out at the surrounding countryside, the
reverse plain, set within a beaded zitan frame
with a horizontal panel carved on both sides with
confronted kuilong, the stand with two slotted
uprights with further archaistic carving joined by
stretchers and a taotie motif apron (2)
