                                                                              by brass ttings, brass handles on opposite sides,
                                                                              the exterior carved in relief with varying images
                                                                              within borders, the keyfret chiseled cross sections
                                                                              painted with ne lines of red, black, and gilt
                                                                              pigmented lacquer to imitate carved lacquer, the
                                                                              front and top with respective scenes of an o cial
                                                                              traveling with his entourage and two scholars
                                                                              conversing by moonlight, the sides densely packed
                                                                              with owers in bloom, the back with a deer and
                                                                              crane in a natural setting, the red and black-
                                                                              lacquered interior supporting a shallow nested tray,
                                                                              the base lacquered black (2)

                                                                              embroidered with seed pearls and de ned with
                                                                              knotted stitch against a navy blue silk ground,
                                                                              the back panel with colorful ruyi and scrolling
                                                                              arabesques in knotted stitch

                                                                              the 108 amber beads divided by four pale green
                                                                              jadeite fotou (Buddha heads), the fotou at the back
                                                                              connected to a gourd-shaped fotouta (Buddha head
                                                                              stupa), supporting a silk cord tassel intersected by
                                                                              a attened rectangular jadeite pendant, terminating
                                                                              to a ligree-mounted jadeite tear-shaped bead,
                                                                              enhanced by three jinnian strands each strung with
                                                                              ten coral beads, wood and glass display frame (2)
