A DOUCAI ‘ DUCKS AND LOTUS’ DISH
YONGZHENG MARK AND PERIOD

painted with a medallion of lotus plants emerging
from the water, a duck ying overhead, encircled by a
frieze of ducks interspersed by further lotus, between
double line borders, the underside with owering lotus,
the base with a six-character mark in underglaze blue
together with a small 20th century doucai and famille-
rose dish, the central medallion with foliate C-scroll
decoration beneath a narrow border of bats, clouds and
wanzi on a stippled ground, the reverse with further
scrollwork, the base with apocryphal Guangxu mark (2)
Diameter of larger 7⅞ in., 20.2 cm

the broad belly rising from a spreading foot to a
waisted neck, anked on the sides by two dragon-form
handles, the body with a continuous peony scroll above
a band of keyfret and dragons, the neck with bands of
lotus scroll, diaper, acanthus leaves, and keyfret, the
base with an apocryphal Qianlong mark
