UNDERGLAZE BLUE ‘DRAGON’ BOWL
EARLY QING DYNASTY
the gently rounded sides rising from a tapered foot,
painted in underglaze blue with two striding dragons
among scrolled clouds to the exterior and another
in the central roundel to the interior, all reserved
against the custard-yellow ground stopping neatly
above the unglazed foot ring, with apocryphal six-
character Xuande mark in underglaze blue on a
white-glazed base

each with deep rounded sides and a slightly everted
rim, supported on a narrow footring, painted around
the exterior with two dragons striding among ames
in pursuit of a ‘ aming pearl’, the interior with a
central medallion enclosing a dragon in similar
pursuit, all between single or double underglaze blue
line borders, the base with a six-character mark in
underglaze blue (2)

scrolls, the exterior with two further dragons, all
beneath a vibrant lemon-yellow glaze, the base with
a six-character mark in underglaze blue (2)
