ABSTRACT
PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to compare the 24-hour efficacy of DTFC and BTFC in POAG.
METHODS: 3 months, prospective, observer-masked, crossover comparison in 60 patients were
enrolled. Both medications (DTFC or BTFC) were administered twice daily. IOP monitoring was
performed at 10:00, 14:00 18:00, 22:00, 02:00, and 06:00 h (±1 h). Patients underwent first a timolol
0.5% run-in period for at least 8 weeks and were randomized only if IOP remained greater than 18 mm
Hg, and mean reduction of morning IOP (10:00±1 h) was at least 20% on timolol monotherapy.
STUDY CRITERIA: Mean IOP (mmHg)
RESULTS: DTFC demonstrated a lower absolute 24-hour IOP level mean difference: -0.7 mm Hg,
95% CI (-1.0,-0.3). DTFC significantly reduced IOP more than BTFC : at 18:00 h (-1.0 mm Hg, 95% CI
(-1.6,-0.5), P = 0.001) ; at 02:00 (-0.9 mm Hg, 95% CI: (-1.4,-0.5), P = 0.001).
Figure 7: IOP during 24 hours
CONCLUSIONS: DTFC provides significantly better 24-hour IOP lowering effect than BTFC.
