Chapter 5: Betrayal Along the Way

Tunnel after tunnel, Nayla and the team moved forward. Their breaths grew heavier—not
from exhaustion, but from an invisible burden: broken trust.

“If only we’d been more cautious from the start…” Tiara murmured.

“We all trusted too easily,” Gilang replied softly. “And Adit took advantage of that.”

Suddenly, a loud cracking sound echoed from the ceiling of the corridor. Before anyone could
react, the ground beneath Raka’s feet gave way.

               “RAKA!!!” Farel screamed.

They all rushed to the edge of the hole. Below, a loud thud was heard. In the dim light, they
saw Raka lying motionless at the bottom.

“He fell into an underground chamber,” Nayla said quickly. “We have to get down there!”

Gilang pulled out a climbing rope. Farel descended into the hole with Nayla and Tiara’s help.
They managed to bring Raka to safety, but his ankle was badly twisted.

“We can’t keep going at our usual pace,” Tiara said anxiously. “Raka needs rest.”

The five of them were now forced to take shelter inside a small cave for the time being.

               Elsewhere...

Adit walked through a narrow corridor, guided only by a small lantern. After descending a
flight of stone steps, he arrived at a massive circular chamber with dull golden walls. In the
center stood a grand stone gate carved with the faces of three human expressions—the
               symbol of Enigma City.

Above the gate, an ancient inscription was engraved. Adit shined his light on it and read from
a small notebook he had stolen from Gilang:

“This gate shall only open to the soul that carries truth, not desire.”

“One cannot, two will fail, six will complete.”

Adit scoffed. “Six people? So... I do need them?”

He kicked a small rock toward the wall. “No. I’ll force this door open. I have my own way.”

But as he approached the gate and touched it—his hand was violently repelled. His body
slammed into the wall, making him cough and curse.

Suddenly, a strange voice echoed from the darkness:

               “You won’t enter alone, Adit.”

Adit turned quickly. No one was there.
