If you find a couple dozen ants in your apartment,
be thankful, very thankful, and here’s why:
Researchers have come up with an
astonishing new estimate for the number
of ants living on Earth: 20 quadrillion.
That's 20,000,000,000,000,000 ants.
In comparison, our galaxy
has around 100 billion stars.
For every human alive on the planet, there
are roughly 2.5 million ants.
So what that means is that someone else
has about 5 million ants. Be thankful.
Ants have several key roles in keeping their environ-
ments in balance, including aerating the soil, dispersing
seeds, decomposing organic material and serving as a
food source.
Thoughts from the Editor
In the time I have been producing the newsletter, showing movies and a few oth-
er things, I have met a lot of wonderful people at Amber Lights. Sadly, some
are gone now. I must express my concern that so many of you don’t come out
for the events that Amber Lights provides for you. I have printed articles in the
newsletter about how important it is for your mental and physical health to be
social and active.
Amber Lights management is far more generous and caring than any other simi-
lar living complexes than any others that I know of. It hurts me that so many of
you just stay sequestered in your apartments when there is offerings of social events to take advantage of.
Sure, some say that there is nothing you are interested in and yet I ask and get no good responses.
I give of my time to try to make things good for you and I do it as a volunteer, no pay. I do it because I care.
It is sad that I have brought world class live music and only 9 people show up. I provide snacks and refresh-
ments and still very few participants. What will it take?
So, for now, there will be no more live music events and I am backing off on other things to do as well. Mov-
ies will continue.
I appreciate those of you who do come out and realize how important socialization is to your well-being.
pepper, then place in the center of the stuffing. Rub the turkey with the butter mixture.
Prepare the sweet potatoes: In a medium bowl, toss all of the sweet potato ingredients together to coat. Spread the
sweet potatoes over the top half of the empty right side of the baking sheet. The slices will overlap like a gratin. Roast
in the oven for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile, prepare the green beans: In a medium bowl, toss together all the green beans ingredients. After 30
minutes, add the green beans to the remaining quarter of the baking sheet, spreading in an even layer to fill the
space. Continue to cook until the green beans are tender and the turkey reads 155 F on an instant-read thermometer
when inserted, another 20 to 30 minutes.
Remove the tray from the oven and tent with foil, then let rest for 15 minutes. Carve the turkey and serve.
