What you need to know about Report, Breaks and Hours of Assignment
1. Report
The Charge Nurse or the RN assigned to the patient
will provide information about the patient’s
condition and care needs to the assigned PNA. The
off-going PNA also reports to the oncoming PNA at
the change of shift.
2. Breaks
The Charge Nurse will assign breaks and lunch. Should
an unassigned break be needed, the PNA will contact
the Charge Nurse to arrange break coverage.
3. Hours of Assignment
The PNA is expected to be active in performing all
patient care activities within their scope of practice as
described above. To assist with fatigue management, PNA will
not typically be assigned to work as a PNA for more than 12
hours within a 24-hour period. The Charge Nurse or
Administrative Nurse Supervisor may assign PNA’s in 4-hour
shifts.
