Do’s and Don’ts While in the Patient Room
A light is to remain on in the patient’s room at night to allow for
visualization of the patient at all times. Lighting may be indirect
using the bathroom light with the door ajar, or the under-bed
lighting.
Conversation with and reading to the patient is encouraged.
If the patient desires, the television may be turned to a channel of the
patient's preference and at an appropriate volume.
PNA may read during quiet times provided he/she remains alert to the
patient at all times and view is not obscured.
PNA must provide appropriate care in a timely manner.
PNA use of personal headphones/music, cellular phone or other personal
electronic equipment while on duty is strictly prohibited.
The use of the patient's phone, cellular phone, or computers is strictly
prohibited. Computer use is permitted strictly for work purposes.
If a patient on elopement precautions attempts to leave the room, alert
a member of the nursing staff immediately.
If the patient successfully leaves the room and unit, follow the patient
at a safe distance (25 feet).
Do not follow the patient beyond the following external boundaries:
base of Cardinal, Dogwood and Neurosciences parking deck ramps;
Emergency Department (ED) parking area visible from doorway of ED;
brick patio prior to steps to The Beach cafeteria.
