On returning home to England whether from secret missions for the Crown or
from expeditions of daring doo, Daedalus always bought dear old mum a treat

from exotic climes. No gift delighted her more than whenever Daedalus brought
her the Piña de India's, a true gift for a Queen, a fruit so rare that at 4
thousand pounds, even the Queen blanched at the price.

Wanting to do something extra special for his mother as he was often away for
extended periods and that the piña-apples would frequently spoil on the long
journey home, the Doctor and the Tremayne family designed a pineapple pit in the

secret gardens of Heligan in Cornwall.
This pit was powered by 15 tons of horse manure creating enough heat to ward
                                      off the frost.

Unfortunately, the cost of producing and guarding this precious bounty meant
that one pineapple was 10 thousand pounds and needless to say his invention never
took off. Whether in jest or in warning one of the guards in response to the

smell of the pit wrote on the Heligan garden’s wall…
‘Don’t come here to sleep or slumber!’
