In order to finance his travels across the Empire (& pay off some debts) the
young Doctor entered a conkers tournament with a grand prize of 200 gold

                                        sovereigns!
The youthful Daedalus saw off all challengers, in the final he came up against a
severe young man called Livingarty. The match went on for several days with
curses, hisses and steely eyes, until at last Daedalsus with an exhausted cry,

smashed the opponent’s prize nut. Leaning forward in triumph Daedalus whispered
‘Veni Vidi Vichi’ ( I came, I saw, I conquered! ). The Doctor would look back in later
years realising that was the moment the opponent became his lifelong nemesis…

                                   Professor Livingarty!
Needless to say Daedalus’s knowledge of the preservative effects of vinegar &
alcohol may have helped him no end during the course of the contest allowing him

an unfair advantage in his victory.
