Study Section 6: Jesus is God

                6.1 Connect.

Today we want to look at four verses in the Bible that CLEARLY state that Jesus is God. While
the JW will seek to alter these verses in the NWT, a little knowledge or Koine Greek (the
original language these verses were written in), you can show you JW friend the truth of the
Scriptures: Jesus is not only the Son of God, but He is very God.

                6.2 Objectives:

                     1. The student should be able to share some Greek words which will clarify the verses you will
study in this lesson. While you may not be a Greek scholar, these words are important and worth
                     learning by heart.

                     2. The student should be able to explain that the Lord God in the Old Testament is Jesus in the
New Testament. In Zech. 12:10, the Lord speaks and declares that all will look on Him whom they have
pierced. You will see that Jesus Christ is the Lord God.

In this lesson, notice the Witnessing Notes. These should be learned to point out the conflict between
what the JW doctrine says and what the truth of the Scripture says. It shows to the JW that both cannot
be true. This is how they can come to Christ!

6.3 Four important verses on who Jesus is….

                        2. Colossians 2:9

For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form,
                        9
NTW “It is in him that all the fullness of the divine quality dwells bodily,”

The Greek phrase “fullness of Deity” is more literally translated, “fullness of Godhead (theotatos)”

“Fullness” in Greek = “full measure”, “completeness,” “totality,” “sum total.” Jesus is fully absolute
               divinity.

“Fullness of Deity” literally means, “the totality of the divine powers and attributes”, “state of being
God, Godhead”, “having a divine nature”, “the being of the very essence of deity.” It is deity, not
divinity. It is not referring to merely divine attributes, but to the divine nature itself!

It is theotatos somatikos: “Godhead in the FLESH”

WITNESSING NOTE: Every Greek scholar that I have consulted assure me that Colossians 2:9 points to
the absolute deity of Jesus Christ. Can you name a single renowned Greek scholar who agrees with
the Watchtower rendering of this verse?
