WITNESSING NOTE: Since every major reliable Hebrew manuscript portrays Jehovah as saying “they
will look on ME whom they have pierced,” what does that say about the identity of Jesus Christ? Is He
Jehovah?

5. Titus 2:13

13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and
Savior, Jesus Christ,

NWT: ..”of the great God and of the Savior of us, Christ Jesus.”

Notice that the NWT translates this to create TWO persons in this verse: Jehovah God
and Jesus the Savior. Most all other translations refer to the Great God and Savior as one.
However, the logic to show this is a correct translation is as follows:

According to Isaiah 43:11 (I, even I, am the Lord, And there is no savior beside Me.), who is the savior?
Answer: “ Jehovah, clearly.” According to this verse, how many saviors are there? Answer: “ONE, only
Jehovah!”

The New Testament clearly refers to Jesus Christ as the Savior! Luke 2:11 says, “Unto you is born this
day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” John 4:42 records the conclusion of the
Samaritans that Jesus “is indeed the Savior of the world”

WITNESSING NOTE: If only God can save and there is no other Savior other than God, and Jesus is the
Savior, then doesn’t this mean that Jesus as Savior is also God the Savior? If not, how do you
reconcile Jesus’s role as Savior with Isaiah 43:11?

Most major Greek scholars (Metzger, Schmiedel, Moulton, A.T. Robertson, Blass-Debrunner, etc) stand
against the Watchtower translation of two persons in this verse. Likewise, Dana and Mantey’s Manual
Grammar of Greek NT positively asserts that the language demands that Jesus is the great God and
Savior.

Here is the GREEK RULE: “When there are two nouns in the same case, which are describing a person,
which are not proper names, and the two nouns are connected by the Greek word “and (kai), and the
first noun is preceded by the article “the” and the second noun is NOT preceded by the article, then the
second noun refers to the same person or thing to which the first noun refers, and is a further
description of it.”

In Titus 2:13, “God” and “Savior” are joined together with the Greek word “and” AND the definite article
(“the”) is placed only in front of the first noun “God.” Literal word for word translation: “the great God
and Savior of us.” Thus, according to the above GREEK RULE: the two nouns (“God” and “Savior”) are
two titles of one person!

JWs will argue that two names are proper names, thus the rule does not apply. However, they are NOT
proper names and the rule does apply. Also, the word “appearing” used in this verse in all of Scripture is
only attributed to Jesus Christ and NEVER refers to the Father, thus god and Jesus Christ will be
appearing (coming). Jesus is God.
