Study Section 15: The Ministry of Angels

                15.1 Connect

There is a house in Loreto, Italy called the Flying House of Mary. Supposedly, in the 13 century
                                                                                                   th
(1291 AD.) a couple of angels lifted Mary’s house off its foundations in Nazareth and transported
it to Tersatto Italy. But the people there did not properly reverence it, so it was again moved to
a couple of other locations, but finally in 1295 it was moved to a forest that belonged to a
woman called Loreta, near the town of Recanati. Between
1295 and 1296, after spending eight months in this
location, the Holy House was miraculously transported to
a farm on Mount Prodo, belonging to two brothers. In
1296, after four months at this farm, the Holy House
departed and landed on a public road on Mount Prodo
connecting Recanati to Ancona, where it remains to this
day. They even built a church built around the house and
people go there today to seek healing and to see the
blessed home of the “mother of God.” The picture to the
right is the interior of the House of Mary as it is today in
               Loreto, Italy.

Is that what angels do? Do they really transport houses
from one location to another? The Roman Catholic Church actually certifies that this is really Mary’s
house from Nazareth, transported to Italy by angelic beings. Let’s find out what the job of angels is…

15.3 The Place of Angels in God’s Purpose

Angels are ministering Spirit of God

As stated, the very meaning of the Hebrew and Greek words translated “angel” reveals their
chief assignment. The writer of Hebrews affirms that the holy angels are “ministering spirits, sent
out to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation” (Heb. 1:14). They are God’s
“ministers” (1:7). We certainly do not know all the specific ways in which holy angels minister to
believers, but we are assured in Scripture that they do minister to God’s children. Many of the following
activities serve as illustrations of some of the ways they minister. The ministries to and for Christ by
angels is another great area of ministry that we saw in the previous section. Again, the Book of Hebrews
stresses these activities, thereby highlighting Christ’s superiority to the angels.

               Angels carry Messages from God
