Lot, lived among the wicked Sodomites (Gen. 19). God sent two angels to deliver Lot from destruction.
They told Lot to take his wife and daughters and get out of the city before God’s judgment fell on it. The
men of Sodom intended to sexually molest Lot’s two guests. Neither the Sodomites nor Lot realized at
first that the two were angels of God appearing as men. These angels, faithful in their service to God,
surrounded Lot until he was safe outside the wicked city. These same two angels not only carried God’s
message to Lot but also were used of God to bring judgment on the wicked Sodomites.
The God-fearing Cornelius, a centurion of an Italian regiment, “saw in a vision an
angel of God” (Acts 10:3). The angel spoke to Cornelius directly and specifically. A
special message was on its way. The angel told Cornelius to dispatch some men to
Joppa to seek out Simon called Peter. The angel even gave specific instruction on
where Peter could be found. When the angel concluded his message, he left.
Cornelius wasted no time doing precisely as the angel told him. He explained the
assignment to his men and sent them to Joppa.
About that time, after God had prepared Peter, the three men arrived. They rehearsed what the angel
had told Cornelius and said that Peter was invited to come to Cornelius’s house and give him God’s
message. Although Peter was a Jew and Jews did not associate that way with Gentiles, he went and told
Cornelius and his relatives and friends all about Christ’s death, resurrection, and the commission Christ
gave to the apostles. As Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles as He had in Jerusalem on the
Day of Pentecost. All this took place because an angel gave God’s message to Cornelius.
Angels Give Guidance and Instruction
“Then Jacob departed from Beersheba and went toward Haran. He came to a certain place and spent the
night there, because the sun had set; and he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his
head, and lay down in that place. He had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top
reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it” (Gen. 28:10–
12, NASB95). ““Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob,’ and I said, ‘Here I am’” (Gen.
31:11, NASB95). “Now as Jacob went on his way, the angels of God met him. Jacob said when he saw
them, “This is God’s camp.” So, he named that place Mahanaim” (Gen. 32:1–2, NASB95). ““You shall
bring the choice first fruits of your soil into the house of the LORD your God. “You are not to boil a young
goat in the milk of its mother. “Behold, I am going to send an angel before you to guard you along the
way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared” (Exod. 23:19–20, NASB95). ““You shall bring
the choice first fruits of your soil into the house of the LORD your God. “You are not to boil a young goat in
the milk of its mother. “Behold, I am going to send an angel before you to guard you along the way and
to bring you into the place which I have prepared” (Exod. 23:19–20, NASB95). “But an angel of the Lord
spoke to Philip saying, “Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza” (This is a
desert road” [Acts 8:26, NASB95]).
Angels Deliver from Danger
“But the high priest rose up, along with all his associates (that is the sect of the Sadducees), and they
were filled with jealousy. They laid hands on the apostles and put them in a public jail. But during the
night an angel of the Lord opened the gates of the prison, and taking them out he said, “Go, stand and
speak to the people in the temple the whole message of this Life.” Upon hearing this, they entered into
the temple about daybreak and began to teach. Now when the high priest and his associates came, they
