Genesis 15:18–21 (NIV84)18 On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, “To
your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates— 19 the
land of the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, 20 Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, 21 Amorites,
                  Canaanites, Girgashites and Jebusites.”

This map shows the full promised land of Israel.

In the Davidic Covenant, God further promised that a King would reign in Israel, specifically in Jerusalem,
               on the throne of David:

                                                                                             20

Psalm 89 18-29 For the Lord is our defense; and the Holy One of Israel is our king…. I have found
David My servant; with My holy oil have I anointed him: With whom My hand shall be
                                                                     21
established: Mine arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son
                                                               22
of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate
                                          23
him. But My faithfulness and My mercy shall be with him: and in My name shall his horn be
                       24
                            27
exalted…. “Also I will make him My first born, higher than the kings of the earth. My mercy will I
                                                                                             28
keep for him forevermore and My covenant [an unbreakable promise] shall stand fast with
him. His seed also will I make to endure forever and his throne as the days of heaven.”
                       29

In 586 BC, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon destroyed the temple in Jerusalem and took what was left of
Israel into captivity. Since that day, the Jewish people have been scattered throughout the entire world
and have not existed as a nation. Then an amazing event occurred in 1948. That was the year Israel was
re-born as a modern nation – an independent and self-ruled Jewish country.

After 1,878 years of being out of the land, Israel became an independent state on May 14, 1948. God’s
               word states why:

Ezekiel 36:22 (NIV84)22 “Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD
says: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake
of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone.
