Another source of counsel is fellow believers, especially if they are older than you or have experiences in
dealing with similar situations. They cannot only pray for you, but often the Lord can use them to guide
you in ways they can see, but you cannot. Of course, the final direction must come from the Lord, but
often God brings believers into your life that can encourage you greatly to walk God’s path.
Seeking guidance from professionals can also provide you with guidance. They have invested years of
their lives in studying God’s Word and in giving godly guidance to others. The Bible is clear about
seeking wise counsel.
Proverbs 12:15 The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.
Proverbs 19:20 Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.
A word of CAUTION: Always be sure that the advice you receive not only makes sense, but is biblical.
And make sure that the person giving you the advice does not gain financially by providing a biased view
on things.
Matthew 10:16 I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and
as innocent as doves.
Our Role and God’s Role in Managing our Resources
From Managing Your Finances God’s Way by Johnathan Mun, Ph.D.
Key Concept:
God has a role to play in our finances, and we have a role to play in our finances. Our
role can be summarized into three W’s:
Wait
Worship
Work
Our role is also to be a faithful steward of what is entrusted to us.
God’s role is to be the ultimate and faithful provider. His job is also to be our counselor. He has proven
Himself again and again as a faithful Heavenly Father, and has shown His love by giving us His son, Jesus,
to die for us so that we can be forgiven. God’s role is to never leave us or forsake us in need.
Our Role: Wait, Worship, and Work
One of the most difficult roles we play is to wait for the Lord and His blessings. We
are often tempted to take things into our own hands, especially in the area of our
finances. Most of the time, this ends in disaster (ex., Abraham and Ishmael). We
must understand that God has His own timing.
Psalm 130:5 I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.
