Study Section 4: Walking by Faith
4.1 Connect
Remember in Hebrews what characteristic that Abraham exhibited that pleased God. In
fact, it says that Abraham’s salvation came to him by FAITH. And then, the author of
Hebrews explains to us that it is impossible to please God without FAITH. God wants us to
live by faith. That means living by trusting him.
A feature about faith in the Bible is that it is never PASSIVE. Look in Hebrews 11. It lists for us a
hallmark of faithful believers. In every case, it not only states that they had faith, but they did
something about it. They responded to their belief. Abraham believed God and LEFT his home to obey
God. The argument of the book of James is that faith can be seen and observed in the works it
produces.
How is your faith being demonstrated in the way you manage your money? If I looked into your
personal management ledgers, would I see FAITH demonstrated in how you manage what God has given
you? Let’s learn today how to live by faith….
4.2 Objectives
1. The student should be able to describe how faith in God is displayed in the way you manage your
money.
2. The student should be able to cite several verses in the Bible that demonstrate to you that
God wants you to live by faith in Him.
3. The student should be able to describe the other two elements of our roles in managing God’s money.
4. The student should be able to explain what God’s role is in caring for us.
4.3 Here is a key concept in Scripture
We need to learn to WALK BY FAITH, always trusting in God. This means trusting in him
to provide all our needs.
In Genesis 33:14, God is spoken of as “Jehovah-Jireh” which means “The Lord will
provide.” He takes care of his people, and he does not need US to step into the process
to try to control the situations. God is honored when we walk by faith, trusting Him with
our finances. God wants to be in control in our lives. When we REST in Him, allowing Him to control
this area in our lives, God is exalted. Our faith is a demonstration that we trust God to provide for us, to
guide us, and to direct every activity of our lives. Our faith is a demonstration of our yielded obedience
and submission to the Lordship of Jesus in our lives. And people should be able to observe this in how
we manage God’s money.
