Study Section 3: Finding Contentment
3.1 Connect
God’s Word tells us to be content with what we have. That is really hard, isn’t it? When we
go to the store and see all the things that are there, we sometimes wish we had more. And
when our friends get something new, we think about how nice it would be if we had that.
But the Bible tells us to keep our lives free from the love of money or what it can buy, but to
be content with what you have. (Heb. 13:5) It seems that to find contentment in what God
has provided us is one of the most important principles we can learn in this lesson to avoid
those desires we have for more. Let’s find out how we can find contentment….
3.2 Objectives
1. The student should be able to cite numerous Bible verses where God explains to us how to
become content.
2. The student should be able to explain all the possible places or people who can give us good
counsel in making those decisions.
3. The student should be able to describe our roles and duties as God’s financial managers and also
learn about God’s role and promises in caring for us.
3.3 Finding Contentment
Dr. Mun suggests, “One way to have a change in heart and attitude is to find contentment.
Be content with what you have.”
Hebrews 13:5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have,
because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Contentment does not mean sitting idly by and being happy with what you have or do
not have. Contentment is more having the right perspective and appreciation for what
God has given you. Finding contentment requires knowing that God loves you and that
He will provide for all your needs, and that we have to WAIT on Him. But while waiting,
we will have to be good stewards and work hard toward our goals in accordance to His
will. Align your goals with God’s will and He will bless you. Our job is to keep the faith
and be obedient in everything.
Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in
contentment.
I Timothy 6: 6-10 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world,
and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9
Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires
