Study Section 8: Witnessing – continued / Fellowship
8.1 Connect.
Several years ago I was on a mission’s trip to Brazil. A group of us were building a church
out of bricks and planned to have an evangelistic meeting on our last day there after
completing the building. We invited hundreds of lost people to come on Friday. Friday
came and we had yet to put the roof on the building and set up the seating. We had a full
day’s job to get ready for the service.
When we arrived on site to begin our work, it started raining. It rained so hard there was virtually no
space between the rain drops. So we waited and waited, but it did not stop. We gathered as a group
and asked the Lord to stop the rain so we could finish the church building and have the service that
evening. Many people needed to hear the Gospel! But the rain continued. Finally I decided that we
would just have to go out in the rain and work getting soaked. As I stepped out of the shelter, the rain
stopped instantly. I only got dripped on from the rain coming off the roof. I was amazed. God worked
an instant miracle so that we could finish the building. That night, many heard the Gospel and came
forward to receive Christ as Savior and Lord. God wants people to come to Him, and will even stop the
rain to make sure they do!
8.2 Objectives:
1. The student should be able to discuss the various techniques or suggestions for sharing
the Gospel with the lost.
2. The student should be able to read a verse often used to witness: Revelation 3:20 and
study it in context.
3. The student should be able to explain the four key ingredients of fellowship with other believers or
family members.
8.3 Some Simple Suggestions and Methods for Presenting the Gospel
To be able to share the Gospel with someone, you must first open the conversation to
spiritual things. There are a variety of ways you can bring the subject of your
conversation to introduce the Gospel.
Lifeway Press has published a short pamphlet entitled, Share Jesus without Fear. They
suggest opening the conversation with five questions:
1. Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
2. To you, who is Jesus?
3. Do you believe there are a heaven and a hell?
4. If you died right now, where would you go?
5. If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
