Answering the Call to Ministry

Isaiah 6: 8-9 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom

shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am!
                         9
Send me.” And he said, “Go…”

God is looking for faithful servants to call into service for Him.
The call goes out to any believer. God says, “Who can I send to a place to represent me? Who is willing
to go?” Isaiah was standing there viewing this entire scene in heaven. When he heard God ask this
question, Isaiah raised his hand and said, “Here I am. Send me.” What a wonderful act of obedience!
He did not necessarily know where he would end up, or exactly what he would be doing, but was willing
               to go for God.

In a similar manner, God today is looking for a men or women who are willing to lay their lives down and
go where God directs them. He is looking for a men or women to hear his call. He is looking for those
who have applied this verse in their lives:

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And

the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Upon Isaiah’s commitment to go, God began to reveal what Isaiah’s ministry would look like in the
future. He told Isaiah in verses 9-12 that those to whom He was sending Isaiah would not listen, would
not see, and would reject his message. Isn’t that an exciting ministry to enter into?

God may call you to serve Him in a special way in a special place. Here are some principles that you
need to apply to your life if you receive God’s call:

               1. We will never hear God’s calling if we don’t first learn to be still and know the He is God. We
learned about our prayer life earlier in this study. Your communion with God through prayer will allow
you to be still and rest in Him. He will then put a strong urge in your heart which will be His calling and
may even give you an idea of what He is calling you to do.

               2. See yourself truthfully. You need to see yourself truthfully in three ways. First, you need to
remember that you are unworthy of any calling and are a man or woman with a sinful nature. You
cannot look at yourself as God’s special gift to mankind. Rather, view yourself as a repentant sinner who
is willing to be used of God for whatever, wherever. Secondly, for your calling to be sure, you must have
a special relationship with God. You have to be in the Word daily and in constant prayer, developing
your relationship with Christ. Finally, you need to be willing to be used in a mighty way in God’s service.
God can use you to bring thousands of people to Him. During Billy Graham’s life, God used him to share
the Gospel with over 80 million people and he saw over 3 million respond to his invitation to receive
Christ as Savior and Lord. He can use you in the same way!

               3. Consecrate yourself for service. You need to dedicate yourself to God in three ways. First, listen
carefully for God’s calling. As you seek Him with a willing spirit, He certainly will make His voice clear to
you. Second, as you are doing now, prepare to carry out God’s calling. Study the Word. Take every
opportunity to preach or teach the Word. Learn to walk in the Spirit. And finally, you need to sense a
