Separation from the World – View of this World

                13.1 Connect.

Years ago we performed a puppet show at our church entitled, “Andrew and the Dragon.”
It was quite a performance! The story was that Andrew was on a journey much like
Pilgrim in Pilgrim’s Progress, and along the journey a huge dragon attacked him with fiery
darts. All Andrew had to defend himself was a shield, and of course, he was carrying a
sword. The battle raged, and Andrew grew weary, fearing for his life.

Of course the story was an allegory about our journey through life and the battles we have when Satan
attacks us. Andrew was reminded to use his sword in his battle with Satan. The sword represented the
Word of God as Ephesians 6 tells us. Andrew was able to win the battle because his sword repelled the
enemy. As the dragon was wounded, he yelled out, “You won today, but I will be back!”

In real life we can expect attacks from Satan, especially if we are really serving God with all our heart
and strength. Satan does not like committed Christians, so he will attack them when he can. You need
to be wise in how he plans to deceive and destroy you. Let’s learn about his tactics….

                13.2 Objectives:

                          1. The student should be able to discuss the three major ways Satan attacks believers to get
                          them discouraged and defeated.

                          2. The student should be able to describe ways the Bible says that Christians are to be
                          separated from the world.

                13.3 Know Satan’s Tactics

I Peter 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a

roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Satan seeks to outsmart every person on earth, especially believers. He is the arch-
enemy of God and seeks to steal our worship away from God. He will lie, steal, cheat,
and do anything within his power to sidetrack our lives from faithful service to God.
               You can expect it!

If we want to battle him effectively, we must be aware of his tactics or methods. He is very successful
using just a few methods which have worked quite effectively. Here are his simple plans:

               1. He seeks to sow division.

If Satan can keep your Christian brothers from becoming unified, or if he can cause division in a church,
then he is going to succeed at tearing up the body of Christ. If he can break up your home or your
