P. 83
1. Immerse yourself in God’s Word. The more time you spend in God’s Word, the clearer your
discernment will be when you see the counterfeit.
2. Pray for wisdom and discernment. The Holy Spirit indwells you. He can give you the wisdom and
guidance to know and understand truth from error.
3. Watch what you put into your mind. Remember, the god of this world is trying to alter the way you
think. If you watch Hollywood movies or read Satan’s publications, you will expose your mind to his lies.
Consider this verse as the basis for what you watch or read in the media:
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is
pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy
of praise, think about these things.
If what you are watching or reading violates this verse, then STOP watching or reading that material,
period! Obey God’s Word!
4. Protect those close to you from Satan’s deceptions. If you don’t want your child to become a
bartender, don’t send him to a bartending school. Many parents send their children to schools that
oppose the Bible and what the parent is trying to instill in their lives. It does not make sense to expose
your family to Satan’s false philosophies and not expect them to buy into them. Monitor what they
watch and read. Make sure that everyone who is teaching your children believes as you do.
5. Abandon your culture if it is contrary to the Bible. Our culture may say abortion is OK, but the Bible
calls it murder. Our culture may say that it is OK for two consenting adults to live together, but the Bible
calls it fornication. Sometimes our culture, even within the church, may practice behaviors that fly in
the face of God’s Word. We have to side with the Scriptures rather than our culture.
6. You live in the world. Change the World. Don’t let it change you. We are here to share the Gospel
with lost people. We cannot escape from the evil things that happen in our world. We are to associate
with sinners so that they may come to know Christ.

I Corinthians 5:9-11 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— not
at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then
you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who

bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard,
or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.
7. Pick your friends and associates carefully. The above verse tells us that if a believer is purposely
defying God in his behavior, then we should not associate with that person. We should select friends
who will encourage us in our walk with Christ and avoid those who may try to encourage us to walk in
the flesh.
8. Confront the evil and injustice of the world. There are cases in our world where people are trapped
in human trafficking, prostitution, and child pornography. These are evils that destroy lives. As
believers, we should confront this type of evil and seek to make changes. William Wilberforce lived
from 1759 to 1833. He was a member of the English Parliament. England was a nation that promoted
