5. Take a part in the life of the church. Do something for God.
At the premarital meeting, the initial conference is important. This meeting should be held as early in the first
stage of wedding planning as possible. The following represents in generalities what the pastor may wish to ask
in these sessions to appraise where the relationship now stands and any issues that may arise based on how the
couple responds to the questions.
A. General Background
1. How would bride or the groom describe his family?
2. What is the bride or groom’s educational background?
3. What is the bride or groom’s employment background?
4. How often has the bride or groom moved throughout his/her life?
B. Parental Background
1. Are the bride or groom’s parents Christians?
2. Do both parents approve of this relationship and bless it to the point of marriage?
C. Financial Information
1. Does the groom have a stable and secure financial basis
2. What indebtedness has the groom incurred? How is he handling it?
3. Does the groom use credit cards? If so, how?
4. How does the groom handle and manage money?
D. Health Information
1. When was the bride and groom’s last thorough physical exam?
2. Is the groom in good health? Is he free of any communicable diseases?
3. Is the bride pregnant? Is she free of any communicable diseases?
E. Personal Habits
1. Does the bride or groom drink or smoke?
2. Does the bride or groom use “recreational” drugs?
3. Does the bride or groom gamble?
F. Spiritual Background
1. Does the bride or groom have a saving knowledge of Jesus?
2. Is the bride or groom maturing in the Christian faith?
3. What is the bride or groom’s church history?
G. Marital Background
1. Has the bride or groom been married and divorced previously?
2. Does the bride or groom have any children?
H. Dating History
1. What is the bride or groom’s dating history?
2. When and how did the groom and bride meet?
3. How would the bride or groom describe dating life?
I. Sexual Purity
1. Have they been able to maintain sexual purity in their dating relationship?
2. Discuss their future commitment to sexual purity.
