foot front for the depth of 200 feet; $4,500 for a 100 foot
frontage with- a bungalow on it; and $370 per acre for
the ground to the rear of this extending back to the
Southern Railway right-of-way."
Mr. J. R. Blackwell, Jr. taught at this school for
three years. There were about 20 teachers and about
450 students. After a total of four years of teaching in
Kernersville Mr. Blackwell became Principal in 1930,
succeeding Mr. Hardy A. Carroll. He was Principal until
1948. He later went to Sedgefield as Principal and still
retains this position. During 1948 there was a total of
870 students.
Mr. C. V. Sigmon became Principal in 1948 and held
this post until his death in July of 1965.
In 1949 the need for classrooms was so great that
work was begun on an addition to the present school,

new addition was entirely for high school classes and
included: a science laboratory, the library, the home
economics department, and the commercial department.
Kernersville High School was inspected in 1948 by
a state high school evaluating committe~\ and after some
improvements Kernersville was accepted into the mem-
bership of the Southern Association of Secondary Schools
and Colleges.
On December 19, 1955 .the Kernersville High School
students moved into a new ten room high school build-
ing located in the heart of the 28 acre Kernersville
School campus.
In 1962 there was school consolidation in this area.
Students from Kernersville, Walkertown, and Glenn
went to East Forsyth Senior High School. Kernersville
The Kernersville School Band in 1952 sent 413 students to East.
