Sawhorse and Seahorse
In a chance encounter, a sawhorse happened upon a seahorse. They
regarded each other silently for a minute, and then entered into a
friendly conversation.
“I see that you are a sawhorse,” said the seahorse.
“And I saw that you’re a seahorse,” replied the sawhorse.
“Do you ever wonder,” said the seahorse, “why we have such odd
names?”
“I think somebody tried to stick two things together to make our
names more descriptive. You know, A + B = C.”
The seahorse agreed. “Quite so. But we are only partially, vaguely and
accidentally equine. I have a horse-like head, but no legs.”
“And I,” acknowledged the sawhorse, “have four legs, as does a
horse, but not its head. In fact, no head at all.”
