Dragon: Drop that Icon!
With that he staggered out of the churchyard and made his way
back to his office. There he poured himself a fresh glass of tea and
sat down to compose a letter to his superiors in Molsk, the provincial
capital.
He explained the dire situation in his district, how the depredations
of one Draco, a wild beast, were threatening the sanctity of the
church and the preservation of its property. In conclusion, he
requested a detachment of the czar’s soldiers stationed in Molsk be
dispatched immediately to Spoznarsk for the purpose of destroying
the dragon and restoring the icons to their proper place.
Chief Lobachevsky sealed the letter and put it in the special pouch
for official documents. Then he set about assessing the damage to his
person and his overcoat. Dragons were a bad business, he decided,
shaking his sooty head. But now it would be taken care of by the
forces of His Imperial Majesty, and reports of his courage would
undoubtedly increase his respect in Spoznarsk.
