At last the monster broke out in a sob
And screamed, “I know it’s an odious job!

But if I don‘t do it I’ll die in vain,
With nothing to show for the awful pain

I’ve had to endure for so many years
Of hiding from people, shedding my tears

For all of the things that used to be mine:
A home and a wife instead of this brine!”
