Meanwhile, Sniffy, who was enjoying his retirement by sleeping late
every morning, went out on his patio in the early afternoon to clean
up the mess he had made the night before. He saw the addition to
Spiffy’s wall and realized it would once again prevent him from
watching the sun set behind the mountains. So he quickly set to work
elevating his patio.
In the late afternoon Spiffy came out of his house and made himself
comfortable in his rocker. He lit his pipe and began to figure out how
many paperclips it would take to build one wheel of the cart hauling
paperclips out to the dump. The number was just about to come to
him when—Pop! Pop! Pop!—a series of loud explosions drove all
reasonable thoughts from his mind.
