At dawn the elves were exhausted. They had worked all night, and
now they were too tired to do anything but collapse in front of their
houses and stare at each other’s handiwork.
Spiffy squinted against the morning sun. Was his wall high enough
now? It was hard to tell. Sniffy wondered if he would be able to see
the sunset. He would have to climb all the way up to his patio and
take a look, and that would take a lot of effort.
As Sniffy and Spiffy were thus occupied with their thoughts, a
squirrel darted out from behind some trees and surveyed the elves
and their properties. Then he jumped up on a rock and chattered
loudly until he got their attention. They got up and walked closer to
listen.
