Introduction
Map
Some of the places in Poland named by AR are not found on
modern maps. Others are known by several names, depending upon
the language (Sosnowitz is Skiernieroice, for example). The following
sketch is based on an 1899 German map in the UCLA map library. I
have used AR’s spelling, as amended by modern usage, and included
only geographical features relevant to his narrative. The scale is not
precise; it is roughly twenty miles from Warsaw to Novodvory as the
crow flies.
