Hegel (1770-1831) & Marx (1818-1883)
Hegel claimed spirit generates matter:
That’s a dialectic none can shatter;
Maybe not, said Marx, but I must nix it,
Or turn it on its head—that will fix it.
Wittgenstein (1889-1951)
Like a fallen idol was Wittgenstein:
He could astound us with his wit then whine,
“What I said about language brought me fame—
But now I’m demoting it to a game.”
Morgenbesser (1921-2004)
“Double negatives no language will shun;
But a double positive? There is none,”
Asserted the visiting professor.
From the back: “Yeah, yeah.” sneered Morgenbesser.
